A STATEMENT FROM SENATOR SUE SERINO REGARDING THE PUDDING STREET OVERPASS

ALBANY, NY—Senator Sue Serino today released the following statement regarding the construction of the Pudding Street Overpass:

“Concerned constituents have reached out to my office regarding the early closing of the median associated with construction of the Pudding Street Overpass. The median was originally scheduled to remain open until summer of 2020, but due to safety concerns that have arisen since the schedule was originally announced, the median is now scheduled to be closed on December 2, 2019. My office has been in constant contact with the New York State Department of Transportation (DOT), and we have shared with them every concern that has been brought forward.

Residents have expressed immediate concerns regarding a lack of barriers being placed between the construction site and the roadway, leaving drivers vulnerable to falling debris. My office has raised that concern with the DOT directly and we have been assured that they are investigating immediately. It is my understanding that they are also working with local Emergency Services to create access plans in response to the earlier closing date and will be providing the community with an update on those plans in the coming days.

While we all want to see this project move forward as swiftly and efficiently as possible, safety must always be our top priority. I thank the residents for their diligence in monitoring this project, and urge drivers to use caution in the area throughout the course of construction. I will continue to keep residents apprised of developments as they become available.”
