(Albany, New York) — Today, Senator Todd Kaminsky was appointed as a Commissioner of the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (“ASMFC”) by Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins. Kaminsky, who serves as Chair of the Senate’s Environmental Conservation Committee, will use the position to closely manage the marine resources along the Atlantic Coast and ensure that there are healthy and abundant fisheries for future generations to enjoy.

“Our Oceans and fisheries are precious resources and they need to be managed and conserved,” said Senator Todd Kaminsky, Chair of the Senate Environmental Conservation Committee. “I am pleased to have been appointed to the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission and will use this post to ensure that rules are in place to conserve important natural resources and fisheries.”

The ASMFC is an interstate commission formed to coordinate and manage fishery resources and marine life along the Atlantic Coast. The Commission was formed by the 15 states bordering the Atlantic Ocean in 1942 and chartered by Congress in 1950. Commissioners are responsible for ensuring the conservation and management of their shared coastal fishery. For example, at their upcoming February meeting, ASMFC Commissioners are expected to vote to protect the striped bass population along the Atlantic Coast.
