COVID-19 Cases and Deaths

So far, there have been 379,482 total positive cases of COVID-19 statewide, including 13,353 in Rockland and 34,039 in Westchester. Sadly, we have lost 24,348 people statewide.

NYS Legislature Passes Comprehensive Police Reform Package

My colleagues and I passed 10 bills to address the disparity that exists within our system, particularly for black New Yorkers. While these bills are a necessary first step, there is still much work to be done to breakdown the systemic racism that exists in our justice system. I will continue working to ensure that every New Yorker is treated with fairness, respect, and humanity. Check out the bills below:

S.6670Bthe Eric Garner Anti-Chokehold Act

S.8496 repeals section 50-a of the Civil Rights Law

S.3253A guarantees that individuals have the right to record activities of law enforcement.

S.8492 creates a civil penalty for individuals who call the police on individuals of a protected class when there is no immediate threat to person or property, or no evidence that a crime is being committed, or has been committed.

S.8493 requires police officers to use body-warn cameras while on patrol.

S.6601B requires police officers to provide medical attention to people in custody.

S.1830Cthe Police Statistics and Transparency Act (STAT)

S.2575B requires police to report when they discharge their weapon

S.3595B establishes a new office to make recommendations on police practices

S.2574C establishes a new office to investigate deaths caused by police 

Paycheck Protection Program Flexibility Act Signed into Law
On Friday, President Trump signed the Paycheck Protection Program Flexibility Act, which amends the Paycheck Protection Program to give borrowers more time to spend loan funds and still obtain forgiveness. Now, borrowers now have 24 weeks to spend loan proceeds, up from 8 weeks. The Act also extends the time that businesses have to pay off loans to five years, up the original two years. Board of Regents to Consider Fall Plans

On Monday, the New York State Board of Regents and State Education Department announced that they will hold four Regional School Reopening Task Force meetings to gather input of safely reopening schools in the fall. These meetings will be held virtually over the next few weeks. See more information on the meeting schedule and what they will be discussing, here.

New COVID-19 Testing Sites Available in Rockland and Westchester.

Northwell Health has opened a new testing site in Spring Valley at the Martin Luther King Multi-Purpose Center. The site will be open until June 12 and will serve everyone in the community regardless of insurance or immigration status. Call 1-833-422-7369 to schedule an appointment.

Senator Carlucci receives COVID-19 antibody test at the new MLK testing center

Open Door Family Medical Center is providing free COVID-19 diagnostic testing and low-cost antibody testing to residents. Open Door operates centers in Ossining, Port Chester, Sleepy Hollow, Mount Kisco, Brewster and Mamaroneck. To schedule a virtual or in-person visit,  call 914-632-2737, or email hello@odfmc.org. They accept same-day appointments and walk-ins are always welcome. 

New Terminal Opens at LaGuardia Airport 

Rick Cotton, the Executive Director of the Port Authority, announced the opening of a new terminal at LaGuardia Airport. The new terminal is 50 percent larger than the previous terminal and will consist of new concessions and amenities from iconic New York institutions. The project will generate a total of 14,000 new jobs, and a career center has been developed to provide job recruitment and placement services.
