Senator Patrick M. Gallivan, (R-C-I, Elma) has been appointed to serve as a member of the Senate’s Standing Committee on Finance, which plays a critical role in the state’s budget process.  The new assignment comes just one week before the governor is scheduled to release his budget proposal for the fiscal year that begins April 1, 2020.

“Our state is facing a multi-billion dollar deficit and I look forward to working with my colleagues on the Senate Finance Committee to adopt a budget that addresses the crisis,” Senator Gallivan said.  “It is imperative that we close the budget gap without imposing new taxes and fees on residents, get a handle on our Medicaid expenses and take the necessary steps to better control the size and cost of government.”

In addition to his new assignment as a member of the Finance Committee, Senator Gallivan continues to serve as the Ranking Member of the Senate Standing Committee on Health.  He has held the leadership role since January 2019.

Senator Gallivan is also a member of the Senate committees on Transportation; Codes; Crime Victims, Crime & Correction; and Labor.  In addition, he sits on the Joint Senate Task Force on Opioids, Addictions and Overdose Prevention.
