New York State
Grant Is One of 35 Awarded Across the State

Senator Patrick M. Gallivan (R-C, Elma) announced the Town of West Seneca has been awarded a $1.7 million grant to construct new sidewalks near West Senior High School, one of more than 30 community projects across New York State designed to promote alternative modes of travel, such as walking, and enhance safety. The awards were made available through the Federal Highway Administration’s Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) and are being administered by the New York State Department of Transportation.

The West Seneca project calls for the construction of new sidewalks, curb ramps and crosswalks along Seneca Street and Ridge Road.

“Sidewalks are an important part of our transportation infrastructure, and this funding will enhance student and pedestrian safety and improve accessibility for all residents,” Senator Gallivan said. “I thank the Department of Transportation for including this project in the program.”

The Transportation Alternatives Program supports transportation-related projects that support a safe, accessible, and connected transportation system. Funded projects include safe routes to schools, sidewalk improvements, pedestrian and bicycle safety enhancements, improved access to public transportation, and trailway networks.

More than $97 million in funding will support 35 separate projects proposed by counties, towns, cities, and villages across the state.
