Joint Statement From Senator Lanza & Senate Republican Leader Ortt On NYC Council Vote Paving Way to Allow 800,000 Non-Citizens to Vote
December 9, 2021
In a move that shows nothing but blatant disregard for our Constitution, the New York City Council just advanced a bill to grant more than 800,000 non-citizens the right to vote.
Today’s vote is a slap in the face to every law-abiding American citizen who values their sacred right to participate in our democracy, and is the latest attempt by New York Democrats to destroy the sanctity of our elections for their own political purposes. It won’t be long until Albany Democrats advance non-citizen voting throughout our entire state.
We are confident that a legal challenge to this outrageous bill will be successful, but it should not come to that – we are calling on the Mayor to immediately veto this partisan attack on our democracy.
