Senator Patrick M. Gallivan (R-C, Elma) issued the following statement:
"The legislation legalizing adult-use recreational marijuana is flawed and will hurt the health and safety of New Yorkers. It ignores the serious concerns raised by the law enforcement community, public health officials and educational experts.
The bill does not adequately address impaired driving and enforcement, workplace safety and the long-term impact of marijuana use. It also sends a mixed message about smoking, drug use and the danger of addiction.
For these reasons, I could not support this bill and, therefore, voted nay."
