Harckham Honors Race Amity of Northern Westchester and Putnam

Somers, NY – New York State Senator Pete Harckham met with the members of the steering committee of Race Amity of Northern Westchester and Putnam today at the Somers Public Library and presented them with a Senate proclamation in recognition of Race Amity Day 2021.

The organization, which celebrates its 100th anniversary this year, unites people in an effort to condemn acts of racial violence. It does so by encouraging amicable and impactful relationships that aim to advance inclusiveness, equality and justice through communication, collaboration and celebration.

“Thank you for all you are doing to continue the conversation that fosters better understanding in our communities and on the local level,” said Harckham.

"We are thrilled to accept this proclamation recognizing the work that Race Amity of Northern Westchester and Putnam does to fulfill the promise of our motto—‘E Pluribus Unum'—‘Out of Many, One,’” said Susan Cody, of the organization’s steering committee.

Race Amity of Northern Westchester and Putnam hosts regular community discussions at the Somers Library that feature speakers, screenings, and presentations aimed at educating one another about each individual’s experiences.
