STATEMENT FROM SENATOR SUE SERINO ON RELEASE OF UPDATED COVID DEATH COUNT
August 25, 2021
HYDE PARK, NY – Senator Sue Serino today released the following statement regarding New York's updated COVID death tally:
“This is a welcome step forward on the transparency front. As Governor Hochul takes on her new role, it is the first of many she must take to begin doing right by the thousands of nursing home residents who lost their lives to COVID-19, and their loved ones.
In order to rebuild public trust, it will be important that anyone who had a hand in manipulating or withholding relevant data from the public no longer has a place in state government, and that the state undergoes a full, independent review of our pandemic response as it relates to these facilities.
New Yorkers deserve not only transparency, but answers and accountability as well, and we will not stop pushing for it.”
Senator Serino is the Ranking Member of the State Senate's Aging Committee.
