Governor Signs Bill Renaming Route 394 in the Town Of Randolph as the Staff Sergeant David Textor Memorial Highway

RANDOLPH – In conjunction with the nation’s celebration of Veterans Day, Senator George Borrello announced that Governor Hochul has signed into law a measure renaming Route 394 in the Town of Randolph as the “Staff Sergeant David Textor Memorial Highway.”

U.S. Army Staff Sgt. David Textor was killed in action on July 15, 2008 while conducting combat operations in Mosul, Iraq.

“For generations, many of our region’s finest and bravest young men and women have found their calling in military service and safeguarding the liberties we cherish,” said Sen. Borrello. “Sergeant Textor was one of those young patriots who was drawn to serve his nation, despite the risks it entailed. Tragically, he lost his life during his service. While we cannot repay the debt we owe him, renaming this roadway is one small way we can honor the courage, dedication and ultimate sacrifice of this American hero.”

At Randolph Central High School, Staff Sgt. Textor competed in football, wrestling and track. He was a member of the U.S. Army’s Company A, 3rd Battalion, 1st Special Forces (Airborne). Sergeant Textor began the Special Forces Qualification Course in May of 2005, earning the designation of “Green Beret” in November of 2006.

Assemblyman Joseph M. Giglio noted the importance of recognizing the sacrifices of fallen heroes like Sgt. Textor.

“One of the greatest privileges of serving in the Assembly is the ability to help families and communities memorialize the brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice to ensure that others are given an opportunity to live in a free society. With the passage of this bill, the family of Staff Sergeant Textor can rest knowing that his memory will live on,” said Assemblyman Giglio.

“Staff Sergeant David Textor was a highly decorated Green Beret who gave his life during combat operations in Iraq. The naming of this highway in his honor reflects the desire of the community of Randolph to remember their hero. It was an honor to work with Senator Borrello to ensure that this bill passed in both houses of the legislature. We can never truly repay the debt we owe to Sergeant Textor, but we will do everything we can to honor his memory.”

Staff Sgt. Textor’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal with campaign star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon with Numeral “2” Device, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas ServiceRibbon, Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, Parachutist Badge, Ranger Tab and the Special Forces Tab.

“Staff Sgt. Textor was a decorated combat veteran who devoted his life to serving his country,” Sen. Borrello said. “Now this roadway, which he traveled many times, will serve as a reminder to all who use it that freedom isn’t free. It’s secured through the selflessness and bravery of people like Sergeant Textor. I want to thank Assemblyman Giglio for co-sponsoring this legislation and Governor Hochul for signing into law. Through this law, New York State is honoring Sergeant Textor’s legacy.”
