SENATOR COONEY PRESENTS NEW YORK STATE MILITARY SERVICE AWARDS TO FIFTEEN LOCAL VETERANS

(ROCHESTER, NY) - Today, February 21, Senator Jeremy Cooney (D-Rochester), presented fifteen local veterans with honors from New York State.

Honorees served in multiple branches, including the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps. Awards included Certificates of Recognition for service in the Cold War, the New York State Medal for Merit, the Conspicuous Service Star, the Conspicuous Service Cross, and the Silver Shield.

Senator Cooney presented the awards on behalf of New York State. All awardees are members of the 468 American Legion Post and VFW Post 4658 in Greece.

The Cold War Certificate of Recognition recognizes "all members of the Armed Forces and qualified Federal government civilian personnel who faithfully and honorably served the United States during the Cold War Era from September 2, 1945, to December 26, 1991".

The Medal for Merit is awarded to former full-time military persons who served in the Armed Forces were honorably discharged and have received at least one federal decoration. The Conspicuous Service Star and the Conspicuous Service Cross recognise outstanding devotion to duty, or outstanding achievement in the application of exceptional skills, judgment or dedication, in non-warlike situations. A Silver Shield is representative of a soldier’s willingness to place their life in danger against the enemies of America for their comrades.

We will never be able to thank our veterans enough for their service to our country,” Said Senator Jeremy Cooney. “It is a privilege to help recognize more than a dozen service members from the 56th District, their sacrifice for our country has not gone unnoticed, and it is my honor to thank them through the presentation of these long overdue awards.”
