State Senator Kevin Parker

Brooklyn, NY – As the legislative session ends, Senator Kevin Parker is proud to highlight several significant victories in his tireless efforts to promote environmental sustainability and foster economic growth in our community. A series of crucial bills -- including the Cap & Invest, Build Public Renewables, Community Hiring, Low Carbon Fuel Standard, and Offshore Wind--  bills have successfully passed earlier in the state budget or through both legislative houses paving the way for a greener and more prosperous future.

The Cap & Invest and Build Public Renewable bills championed by Senator Parker have emerged as commendable achievements this session. These bills recognize the urgent need to combat climate change and provide a comprehensive framework that emphasizes reducing greenhouse gas emissions, fostering renewable energy investments, and critically addressing the effects of climate change on our communities. By incentivizing green technologies and creating opportunities for job growth in the renewable energy sector, these bills safeguard our environment and stimulate our economy.

In a groundbreaking move toward social equity and economic justice, Senator Parker successfully advocated for the passage of the Community Hiring legislation. By promoting local workforce development this bill ensures that our communities have access to the employment opportunities generated by development projects, strengthening our local economy and facilitating long-term prosperity.

Furthermore, the importance of the Low Carbon Field Standard cannot be overstated in our fight against climate change. This legislation represents a significant milestone in reducing carbon emissions from various sectors, encompassing transportation, heating, and industrial activities. Through innovative strategies and clean technology adoption, New York will lead the way in achieving carbon neutrality and a sustainable future for future generations.

Lastly, the successful passage of the Offshore Wind legislation marks a significant step forward in expanding renewable energy sources and reducing our dependence on fossil fuels. With the potential to bolster our economy, create job opportunities, and contribute to emissions reduction goals, offshore wind power offers a sustainable and viable solution for pursuing a greener energy landscape.

As the curtains came down on what was a productive session for the Brooklyn lawmaker, Senator Parker expressed gratitude to his colleagues in the Legislature and the broader community for the unwavering support he received in advancing these critical bills. In emphasizing the significance of these legislative wins, he said: "These bills are not just about environmental sustainability; they represent our commitment to a future that leaves no one behind.
