New York State Senator Luis Sepulveda Committed to a Respectful and Professional Evaluation Process of Governor's Nominee for Chief Judge of the New York Court of Appeals

As a New York State Senator, it is my duty to inform you that the Governor will be nominating a new candidate for Chief Judge of the New York Court of Appeals. This is a process that requires our full attention because of its great importance to our constituents.

As a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, I will do my best to evaluate this nomination with respect, integrity, and a focus on professional qualifications. It is my obligation to comply with the constitutional mandate on this process.

While I am disappointed that there are no Latinos on the list of nominees, I also recognize the Governor's courage and appreciation for our community by nominating Judge Hector Lasalle. I have always fought for Latinos to achieve the positions for which they are qualified. I strongly believe that the Governor nominated a highly qualified Latino judge for this position for the first time during the last nomination process.

Now, we must focus on providing a fair, professional, and dignified process in this nomination. My commitment is to be respectful of this process and to focus on what is best for New Yorkers.
