Statement From Senator Sean Ryan on Lunar New Year Becoming a Public School Holiday in New York
September 9, 2023

BUFFALO – Today, September 9, 2023, New York State Senator Sean Ryan released the following statement celebrating the signing of the bill (S.7573/A.7768) to designate Lunar New Year as a statewide public school holiday:
“The holidays we celebrate are a reflection of the great diversity of the people who call New York home. The designation of Lunar New Year as a statewide public school holiday will ensure families can celebrate together, and is a recognition of the strength of AAPI communities here in Western New York and across our state. I thank Governor Hochul, Senator Kavanagh, Assemblymember Colton, and all those who helped to make this meaningful change.”
