Senator Stavisky Honored by SUNY Faculty

ALBANY- Last week, United University Professions (UUP), the union representing SUNY’s senior college faculty, honored Senator Toby Ann Stavisky (D- Queens) for her years of service and leadership as Senate Higher Education Chair and her unwavering support of public higher education. UUP President Dr. Frank Kowal presented the Senator with a Certificate of Appreciation during a reception in Albany.

"I am delighted to be honored by UUP,” said Senator Stavisky. “UUP is the nation’s largest higher education union and they presented this award. The historic funding my colleagues and I have secured for higher education has helped so many students. I am now in my fifth year as chair and we are working to continue that progress. I want to thank President Kowal and his members for being such an effective partner.”

“Senator Toby Ann Stavisky has long believed in the importance of public higher education and how an affordable, accessible and well-funded public higher education system can truly change lives,” said Dr. Frank Kowal, President of UUP. “As Chair of the Senate Higher Education Committee, Sen. Stavisky is a staunch defender of SUNY who has always challenged proposed cuts to the system. Conversely, she has been a fighter for SUNY, one who has had much success in securing state funding for SUNY.  It was a privilege to honor her with our UUP members at our legislative reception. I thank Sen. Stavisky for her efforts and for her dedication to SUNY, to our students and patients, and public higher education in New York State.”
