Benjamin W. Margolius

Benjamin W. Margolius served in the United States Army and achieved the rank of Colonel.
After completion of his ROTC training, he was commissioned as an Army Second Lieutenant and entered active duty in the Transportation Corps in 1963. Mr. Margolius is a graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, the Marine Corps Command and Staff College Extension Course, and the Marine Corps Instructor Technology School.
In addition to serving as the Chief of Joint Operations for the U.S. Transportation Command, he held important positions in the fields of transportation management, operations, logistics, and war planning in Korea, Germany, Okinawa, Vietnam, the Netherlands, Virginia, Maryland, Florida, Kansas, and Illinois. Mr. Margolius served as a plank owner of the Rapid Deployment and in three unified commands. He retired in 1990, only to be recalled to active duty for Operation Desert Storm.
Following his military retirement in 1991, Mr. Margolius was, at different times, a senior logistics engineer, senior systems analyst, deputy program manager, and trained Six Sigma Black Belt for CEXEC, IBM Federal Systems, and Loral Corporations. He retired from Lockheed Martin in 2004 as a Senior Systems Analyst.
His numerous awards include medals for Defense Superior Service (with one Oak Leaf Cluster), Bronze Star (with one OLC), Defense Meritorious Service, Army Meritorious Service (with one OLC), Joint Service Commendation (with one OLC), Army Commendation (with three OLCs), Navy Achievement, National Defense Service (with one OLC), Vietnam Service (with four campaign stars), Korea Defense Service, and Army Overseas Service (with five tours).
Mr. Margolius is the Past President of the New York Council, Military Officers Association of America, Past President of MOAA’s Southern Tier Chapter, President of the Southern Tier Veterans Support Group, and President of the Macintosh Southern Tier Apple Club. He is a life member of MOAA, the Association of the United States Army, and the Military Order of the World Wars. He is also the team leader of the Binghamton Hometown Heroes Banner Program, a member of American Legion Post 1645, and serves on several boards, including Stand With Me Assistance Dog Team Training, Inc. and Deacon of the Silver Lake Christian Community Church. He is a volunteer with the American Red Cross and a military advisor to Guthrie Lourdes Hospice.
Mr. Margolius resides in Vestal with his wife, Sue, and they have two sons.
