May 16, 2025

Albany, NY – Senator April N.M. Baskin recognized Courtney Malicki and her family last Monday at a ceremony held in the State Capital. Courtney and her husband, Rich, are the proud parents of three sons. Jack, the youngest, was diagnosed with apraxia five years ago at age three at the Robert Warner Center at Oishei Children’s Hospital located in District 63.
Apraxia is a rare and serious speech disorder.
A special education teacher in the Buffalo Public School system, Courtney and her family have been tireless advocates, raising awareness about apraxia and available treatments.
Senator Baskin noted, “Courtney and all of the Malicki’s speak to people across our state and even in Canada about how they can be of help to loved ones with apraxia. Through their determination, they are lending a helping hand to other individuals locally and beyond. I am so pleased that May has been designated Apraxia Awareness Month. Every child deserves to have a voice.”
All five members of the Malicki family traveled to Albany to celebrate Courtney’s award. The ceremony was also attended by Senator Patrick Gallivan, who represents the Malicki’s district in Hamburg.
Courtney Malicki said: “Senator Baskin is truly amazing. My whole family is still on Cloud 9 from the whole experience in the Capital. We’ll never forget that special day and all of the Senator’s efforts helping to inform others about apraxia.”
