Senator Ryan Honors Captain Patrick J. Cassidy as Senate District 50 Veterans Hall of Fame Inductee

New York State Senator Christopher J. Ryan today announced that Captain Patrick J. Cassidy has been posthumously inducted into the New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame as the 2025 honoree representing the 50th Senate District. The New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame was created to honor and recognize outstanding veterans who have distinguished themselves both in military and civilian life. Captain Cassidy is remembered for his outstanding military service, commitment to his community, and enduring legacy of leadership.

“Captain Patrick Cassidy embodied the very best of what it means to serve—both in uniform and in everyday life,” said Senator Ryan. “He led with integrity, gave selflessly, and left an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. I am proud to recognize his extraordinary life and service through this well-deserved induction into the Veterans Hall of Fame.”

Captain Cassidy enlisted in the United States Army in 2011 and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in 2013. He began his career as a Platoon Leader with D Company, 2-108th Infantry, quickly earning the respect of his fellow soldiers and commanding officers through his unwavering dedication and leadership.

In 2017, as a First Lieutenant, he deployed to Ukraine where he trained members of the Armed Forces of Ukraine at the Yavoriv Training Center. His efforts contributed significantly to the future success and resilience of Ukrainian defense forces. A year later, he was promoted to Captain and assigned as a Plans Officer with the 2-101st Cavalry.

Captain Cassidy’s leadership continued during his two-and-a-half-year tenure as Commander of C Troop, 2-101st Cavalry. In January 2021, he mobilized to Washington, D.C., in support of the Presidential Inauguration. In February 2022, he assumed command of Headquarters and Headquarters Troop, where he played a critical role in strengthening combat readiness and supporting civil authorities during stateside operations.

Over the course of his career, Captain Cassidy’s service has been recognized through numerous awards. These include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (10LC), Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal (20LC), National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Services Medal, and others at both the federal and state levels. He also served in the Army National Guard.

Outside of his military accomplishments, Patrick Cassidy was a dedicated civic leader and community member. He served on the Westhill Central School District Board of Education, playing a key role in selecting the district’s current superintendent. A lifelong athlete, he was a beloved member of the Syracuse Chargers and the Le Moyne Koonducks rugby teams, known for his team spirit and sportsmanship.

Captain Patrick J. Cassidy is survived by his beloved wife, Ariane, and their two children, Ronin and Lorcan.

The New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame ceremony will take place on May 27, 2025 at 11 a.m. in Albany.
