Tedisco and Walsh Honor “Trailblazing” Ballston Spa High School NYS Champion Wrestler Mia Collins
June 4, 2025
Mia Collins, a junior at Ballston Spa High School, captured the 2024 New York State Public High School Athletic Association Girls Wrestling Championship title in the 132-pound Division over top-seeded Alexa Doxey of Newfane High School at the Syracuse Research Corporation Arena and Events Center in Syracuse on January 26th.
Prior to the final match, Mia recorded a 38-second pin in her first match; a reversal with 17 seconds remaining to win a 6-4 decision in her quarterfinal bout and then put together a second-period pin in the semifinals.
In light of her recent accomplishments, Mia Collins has garnered a national ranking of eighth in her weight class, and though only a junior; she finished third at the Fargo Nationals in North Dakota.
“Mia Collins is a trailblazer and a tremendous student scholar athlete whose state championship victory capped off an undefeated regular season record of 10-0, along with being the first New York State Girls Wrestling Champion from Ballston Spa High School. With Mia being only a junior, I have a feeling her already incredible athletic career is just getting started!” said Senator Jim Tedisco.
“I’m incredibly proud to see Mia reach yet another milestone in her athletic career. Maintaining a 98 grade point average as a senior and excelling at a sport as she has is an amazing accomplishment. I can’t wait to see what other glass ceilings Mia will shatter as she furthers her education at Columbia over the next four years. Who knows, maybe we’ll see her on ESPN or at the Olympics before her college career is done!” said Assemblywoman Mary Beth Walsh.
