(ROCHESTER, NY) - Today, on “National Coffee Day,” Senator Jeremy Cooney (D-Rochester) awarded Layali Coffee House with a New York State Empire Award, an honor that recognizes excellence in business. Layali was Rochester’s first Yemeni coffee shop. They opened in Henrietta earlier this year on the first day of Ramadan. Layali has announced they are opening a second location on Park Avenue, slated to open later this year. 

Senator Cooney also announced that in an effort to promote small businesses and encourage Rochesterians to shop local, he has curated a list of locally-owned coffee shops from across Monroe County. “This is an opportunity to celebrate the immediate success that Layali Coffee House has had in our community as well as a chance to remind Rochesterians to shop local,” said Senator Jeremy Cooney. “There are so many locally-owned coffee houses that serve as spaces for the community to gather and we need to support them. We encourage everyone to find their favorite coffee shop.”
