Flushing, NY — State Senator John Liu joined firefighters at FDNY Engine 273/Ladder129 company on Union Street, Flushing, to unveil a newly completed mural honoring the legacy of the FDNY and commemorating the heroes of 9/11. The project began last year and was made possible thanks to a partnership between Senator Liu’s office and bb.q Chicken USA, which helped fund the project.

As a young child, State Senator Liu would often join his brothers and friends outside that Union Street firehouse to watch Long Island Railroad trains pass underneath while hoping to hear the firehouse bells go off, signaling that the gate would open to release the glimmering fire trucks.

State Senator John Liu stated, “Just as this firehouse inspired me as a child growing up a few blocks away, I know this beautiful mural will inspire future generations to remember and respect the first responders here in Flushing and throughout New York City who put their lives on the line every day to keep us safe.”

Captain Paul Agruso of FDNY Ladder 129 stated, “We’re proud to recognize the everlasting contributions of the FDNY and first responders who sacrificed so much during 9/11. This mural stands as a lasting tribute to those we lost, and a daily reminder of the values of service, dedication, and safety that define our department.”
