With the deadline for public comments quickly approaching, New York State Sen. Joseph Griffo, R-C-Rome, is encouraging New Yorkers to voice their opposition to the state’s 2025 Draft Energy Plan.
The New York State Energy Planning Board will use feedback it receives to develop the Final State Energy Plan, which provides broad program and policy development direction to guide energy-related decision-making in the state and recommendations for meeting future energy demands through 2040.
The draft plan can be found by visiting https://energyplan.ny.gov/. Written comments will be accepted through Oct. 6, 2025, and can be submitted via the website. Comments can also be emailed to nysenergyplan@nyserda.ny.gov (please include “comment” in your subject line) or mailed to:

Sen. Griffo recently joined with the Senate Republican Conference to oppose the draft plan because its proposals would undermine reliability, limit choice and drive-up costs for New Yorkers. It also relies disproportionately on wind, solar and battery storage while downplaying reliable sources of energy like natural gas and nuclear power.
The plan comes as the Democratic majorities in the Legislature and the governor have continued to push an unrealistic, unreasonable and unaffordable energy agenda, as well as related problematic policies and legislation, that:
- Prohibits gas stoves and other fossil fuel equipment in new construction starting next year.
- Eliminates New York’s long standing “100-foot rule” for natural gas service, shifting costs for new gas service connections to residents and businesses. These costs can range from $2,500 to $10,000 per building.
- Implements electric vehicles and school bus mandates that burden businesses, schools, consumers and communities.
- Overrides local control over siting projects by allowing the Office of Renewable Energy Siting to issue siting permits for major renewable energy projects.
“As the former chair of the Senate’s Energy Committee, I appreciate and understand the need to embrace clean energy,” Sen. Griffo said. “However, the reckless and ridiculous energy agenda championed by the governor and legislative majorities drives up cost, decreases reliability and limits consumer choice. I hope that New Yorkers will express their opposition to this misguided plan because they cannot afford it and it will create more challenges for them. Instead, we need a commonsense approach that includes a diversified energy portfolio and a balanced plan with gas, nuclear and innovation that will lower costs, keep the lights on and grow jobs.”
Sen. Griffo continues to push for a package of legislation that would combat skyrocketing energy costs under the state’s burdensome climate agenda. More information can be found here.
