Griffo: Veteran tax relief legislation passed by Senate

New York State Sen. Joseph Griffo, R-C-Rome, announced today that legislation he supports that would provide significant tax relief to certain veterans in the state has been passed by the Senate.

Senate Bill 1183, which Sen. Griffo cosponsors, provides a complete real property tax exemption for the primary residence of a veteran with a 100% service-connected disability, where property is owned by the veteran and his or her spouse. The tax exemption applies to any real property taxes imposed by a county, city, town, village or school district.

The legislation has been introduced since 2019 and passed several times by the Senate. The Assembly companion bill is in committee.

"I am pleased that the Senate has once again passed this bill, and I have urged the Assembly to take similar action," Sen. Griffo said. "This tax exemption will greatly help disabled veterans and their families and is necessary to increase the quality of life for those who sacrificed so much to protect our country. It is one way that we can show our gratitude to these veterans for their service to our nation."
