Senator Julia Salazar released the following statement:
“Do not listen to anyone saying we need to stop and take a breath, because this is a moment to scream as loud as we can against ICE, against Trump, and against our mayor. ICE is disappearing high schoolers like Dylan, abducting pastors and other New Yorkers from inside courthouses, and barring the press from documenting these crimes. NYPD is attacking protestors who are doing what Mayor Adams is too weak to do, which is protect New Yorkers from being kidnapped by the federal government. Despite the city’s police commissioner assuring everyone that the NYPD does not help ICE with so-called immigration enforcement, we have video footage that shows otherwise.
At all levels of government, New York is failing to protect its people. The bare minimum we can do is pass New York For All and Dignity Not Detention, which will stop New York’s and NYPD’s collaboration with ICE. But to be clear, ICE is already lawless. Without serious and immediate action, ICE will continue to disappear New Yorkers with the help of NYPD.”
