(Southern Tier, NY)- Today, Senator Lea Webb (SD52) announced that Broome and Cortland counties will receive state funding through the AIR NY Aviation Capital Grant Program to enhance safety, modernize operations, promote environmental resilience and enhance regional economic competitiveness at public-use airports across New York. Administered by the New York State Department of Transportation, the AIR NY program supports projects that enhance public and employee safety, improve transportation system sustainability and resilience, advance performance and innovation, and support the economic well-being of New York State.
“Investing in our regional airports is essential to building a stronger, more connected Southern Tier,” said Senator Lea Webb. “These strategic funds from the AIR NY Aviation Capital Grant Program will enhance safety, support modernization efforts, and strengthen the economic vitality of our region. By improving sustainability and resilience at our local airports, we’re not only supporting critical infrastructure but also creating pathways for long-term growth and opportunity across Senate District 52.”
“Our team is honored to receive this award from NYS,” said Mark Heefner, Commissioner of Aviation, Greater Binghamton Airport. “Time after time NYS shows their recognition of the impact General Aviation has on New York’s economy and the role BGM plays in it. We will make good use of this award and improve our facilities for the users. This award is a game changer and will help our airport continue to seek additional tenants and growth.”
Said Roxan Noble, Airport Director, Ithaca Tompkins International Airport, “This grant is an important step forward for Ithaca Tompkins International Airport and our community. The new geothermal heating and cooling system in our upcoming CFR and Administration Building will improve energy efficiency, lower emissions, and showcase both ITH and Tompkins County’s commitment to sustainability. We’re thankful for the support that makes it possible to invest in modern infrastructure and a greener future for all.”
“Tompkins County is grateful to Senator Webb for securing money for this project,” said Dan Klein, Chair of the Tompkins County Legislature. “Our goal is to make the Ithaca Tompkins International Airport a green, economical, and convenient way to connect with the world. This project will help advance that objective.”
Senate District 52 received the following funding through the AIR NY Aviation Capital Grant Program.
- $2.49 million for the Greater Binghamton Airport/Edwin A Link Field to rehabilitate hangars.
- $1.35 million for the Ithaca Tompkins International Airport for a new geothermal heating and cooling system.
