(Binghamton, NY) - Today, Senator Lea Webb presented the New York State Senate Empire Award to Support Black 607, recognizing the organization’s outstanding leadership in advancing equity, entrepreneurship, and community empowerment throughout the Southern Tier. The New York State Senate Empire Award honors businesses and organizations that demonstrate excellence, community leadership, and a lasting positive impact on their region. Support Black 607 was recognized for its role in promoting economic equity, fostering entrepreneurship, and building stronger, more inclusive communities.

Founded in 2020 by Sulaiminah Burns, Support Black 607 began as a grassroots social media initiative to highlight and promote Black-owned businesses in the 607 region. In just a few short years, it has grown to nearly 8,000 members, becoming a vital community hub that connects consumers with Black-owned businesses, celebrates local success stories, and fosters inclusive economic growth.

Through its online platform, Support Black 607 amplifies the work of local entrepreneurs—particularly women-owned businesses —by providing visibility, networking, and support. The group also encourages others to replicate its model, showing how intentional community engagement can strengthen local economies and expand opportunity.

This recognition is a testament to the dedication and support of the people of Broome County, who continue to uplift the mission of Support Black Business 607,” said Sulaiminah Burns, Founder of Support Black Business 607.
