(Binghamton, NY) - On Wednesday, Senator Lea Webb welcomed community members, advocates, and local leaders to the Broome County Public Library for the Binghamton stop of the New York State Black Legislative Task Force Listening Tour.

Chair of the Legislative Task Force, Assemblymember Chantel Jackson (AD-79), made a special appearance and participated in the open discussion. The Task Force, composed of 35 Black State Senators and Assembly Members, launched the tour to highlight the historic $30 million in funding secured this year to support programs uplifting underserved communities across New York State. The Binghamton stop gave Southern Tier residents an opportunity to share their priorities and help shape how these resources can be used most effectively in the region.

“Listening is one of the most important parts of leadership,” said Senator Lea Webb. “The voices we heard reflect the needs and aspirations of our community, and they will help guide how this funding is invested to address systemic inequities. The insight shared here is invaluable, and I am committed to carrying it forward in Albany.”

Residents discussed a range of issues, including access to affordable housing, workforce development, food justice, and expanding educational opportunities. Feedback gathered in Binghamton will be compiled with input from other tour stops across the state to inform the Task Force’s policy agenda.

The next stops of the statewide listening tour will take place October 30 in Albany and November 13 in Rochester.
