SENATOR WALCZYK STANDS UP FOR GIRLS' SPORTS: NO BOYS IN GIRLS' ATHLETICS
June 6, 2025
Senator Mark Walczyk is a cosponsor of S4496, a bill necessary to protect women's athletics in middle and high schools from unfair competition. Young men have no place in girls’ sports.
Senator Walczyk, joined his colleagues at a Thursday press conference advocating for S4496. As part of his commitment, Senator Walczyk has signed onto a letter by legislative leaders, expressing deep concern over recent actions within New York State that contravene President Trump’s Executive Order titled "Keeping Men out of Women’s Sports." This directive reinforces the need for a fair and safe athletic environment for female athletes, protecting their rights under Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972.
Senator Walczyk stands with his Republican colleagues in condemning the actions of Senate Democrats in Albany, who have prioritized political agendas over the rights and opportunities of young women in New York. State Democrat party bosses have blocked the measure from a vote by the full Senate with one week left in the legislative session. This issue is not merely a policy decision; it’s a matter of principle that ensures girls have a safe and level playing field.
“What we are witnessing is a backwards,” declared Senator Walczyk. “The fight for women’s equality in sports has been hard-won over decades, and now we are being told that biological males should be allowed to compete with female athletes? This is not progress; it's a betrayal of every young girl who aspires to compete and excel in her sport.”
To further underscore the urgency of this issue, Senator Walczyk highlighted Senate bill S4496, aimed at protecting women's sports in middle and high schools from unfair competition. "Girls dedicate countless hours to training, pouring their hearts and souls into their sports throughout their high school years and often long before. For many, this commitment is not just about their passion; it’s about securing college scholarships and paving the way for their futures. This bill is established to protect young female athletes from the threat of competing against biological males, which could undermine all their hard work and dedication, putting their safety, and future at risk in a single contest due to unfair competition," concluded Walczyk.
Senator Walczyk calls upon all New Yorkers to join him in this fight for fairness, integrity, and opportunity in women’s sports. “We owe it to young female athletes to safeguard their opportunities—whether it is for their future educations, championships, or the simple joy of fair competition. We must ensure females have the chance to succeed on their own terms—without any unfair advantages or obstacles. Also, this is common sense."
