Savoring the Last Taste of Summer

New York State Sen. Monica R. Martinez will host her End of Summer Community BBQ on Saturday, Aug. 30, 2025, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Hermann Griem Park, 54 Brown Blvd., Wheatley Heights.

In addition to the food, this free community event will feature a backpack and school supply distribution, barber services for children heading back to school, fun games, music, prizes, treats, and more. Backpacks and supplies will be available while supplies last. No registration is required.

“The annual End of Summer BBQ brings our community together to celebrate the moments of this season as it unofficially comes to a close,” Sen. Martinez said.  “It is a time for neighbors to meet, for families to get out into the community, and for children to receive some of the supplies they will need to succeed during the upcoming school year.  I am excited to once again host this event and invite all of our neighbors to attend.”

This will be the second event Sen. Martinez has organized this month to help students prepare for the start of classes.  On Aug. 16, she hosted a Back-to-School Backpack and Supply Distribution in Brentwood that provided supplies to approximately 1,200 students.
