Stony Point, NY – New York State Senator Pete Harckham announced today that the Stony Point Fire District has taken delivery of critical turnout gear and specialized wildfire equipment, both which were purchased with a $50,000 state grant he secured.

“The brave Stony Point firefighters deserve our gratitude—and the very best tools and equipment because those who give their all should never be asked to do so with less than the best available,” said Harckham. “This updated turnout gear includes specialized suits for wildfires, which are increasingly vital as we face more extreme weather and fire risks. I’m proud to deliver this funding to support our firefighters while also easing the burden of these costs on local taxpayers.”

The grant was funded through the Community Resiliency, Economic Sustainability, and Technology (CREST) Program, administered by the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY).

“On behalf of the Stony Point Fire District, we are deeply grateful to Senator Harckham for championing this vital funding,” said Kevin Huslinger, Chair of the Stony Point Fire District Board of Commissioners. “The advanced turnout gear meets the evolving demands of today’s firefighting. The Senator’s commitment ensures our firefighters are prepared and protected as they safeguard our community.”

“Our firefighters are our greatest asset, and nothing is more important than ensuring their safety,” said Kurt Mulligan, Chief of the Stony Point Fire District. “Providing them with the best, most advanced protective gear has always been a top priority for me and all the first district chiefs. I am proud and grateful that Senator Harckham shares our commitment to equipping those who put their lives on the line for our community with the gear they need to do their job and come home safely.”

The modern, high-quality turnout gear includes protective clothing such as jackets, pants, helmets, and boots. The specialized wildfire gear is designed to withstand the intense heat and rugged conditions of wildland firefighting. The investment helps ensure that firefighters are prepared to respond to a wide range of emergencies, from structure fires to the growing threat of wildfires in the region.

Harckham has so far delivered a total of $3.1 million in grant funding for the Town of Stony Point and the North Rockland Central School District since these entities became part of the 40th Senate District in 2022.

Since taking office in 2019, Harckham has delivered more than $30 million in State Senate grant funding to municipalities, first responders and nonprofits in the 40th Senate District.
