North Salem, NY – New York State Senator Pete Harckham today announced that, thanks to a $100,000 State Senate grant he secured, the Town of North Salem police has taken delivery of new police radios, enhancing communication capabilities and improving public safety for residents and first responders.
“Ensuring that our police officers have the tools they need to communicate effectively is essential to public safety,” Harckham said. “These new radios will help North Salem’s officers respond more efficiently in emergencies, coordinate with neighboring departments, and keep our community safe. I’m proud to support the dedicated men and women who serve and protect our towns every day.”
The new radios will dramatically expand the ability of the North Salem Police to communicate with other area departments and agencies.
The grant, secured by Harckham through the State and Municipal (SAM) Facilities Program, will enable the North Salem Police Department to replace aging and unreliable equipment with modern radio technology that meets current countywide standards for interoperability and emergency response.
North Salem Town Supervisor Warren Lucas said “This funding will make an immediate and lasting difference for our police department. Reliable communications are vital in emergency situations, and thanks to Senator Harckham’s advocacy, our officers will have the equipment they need to respond quickly and effectively.”
North Salem Police Chief Thomas Howley said “With the 10 new radios, we can talk to 75-plus municipalities and emergency services units. This is a huge advantage. Before we could talk to 13 or 14. These new radios have been a game changer for our Police Department.”
The new Motorola radios are a top-tier, highly capable professional portable radio designed for agencies or organizations that need wide‐band interoperability, robust durability and strong audio and security performance.
The new gear helps ensure North Salem’s law enforcement officers have dependable, state-of-the-art communication tools for years to come.
