Senator Roxanne J. Persaud Hosts Caribbean-American Heritage Celebration
BROOKLYN, NY – On Saturday, June 28, 2025, Senator Roxanne J. Persaud co-hosted a vibrant Caribbean-American Heritage Celebration alongside her colleagues Assemblywoman Jaime Williams and Assemblywoman Monique Chandler-Waterman. The event, held at the district office in Canarsie, Brooklyn, brought together community members, cultural organizations, and elected officials to honor the Caribbean-American community’s enduring contributions to New York and the nation.
"Caribbean-American Heritage Month is a meaningful time to celebrate the Caribbean community's rich culture, history, and contributions," said Senator Persaud. "I am pleased that my colleagues and I, in collaboration with sponsors and supporters, were able to provide the community with a festive event that recognized the incredible impact Caribbean Americans have had in shaping our borough and beyond."
Assemblywoman Jaime Williams noted, “As someone of Caribbean descent, it’s important to remember our roots and share our stories. Events like this connect generations and build pride in our community as a powerful reminder of our shared Caribbean legacy.
"I am proud to stand with my colleagues and community groups to celebrate our rich Caribbean Culture through performances, food, and music. As we celebrate Caribbean American Heritage Month we expose all Caribbean culture to the community. This is important to learn about one another especially at this time of uncertainty. It was amazing to see the community celebrating in a safe space without concern," said Assemblywoman Chandler-Waterman co-chair of the NYS Caribbean American Delegation. "I will continue to work with my colleagues in government, especially my co-chair of the NYS Caribbean American Delegation Assemblywoman Jaime Williams, to continue to ensure our culture is on display from Albany, NY to Brooklyn, NY. This is not an I thing, it is a WE ting!"
The celebration featured live music, dance performances, and traditional Caribbean cuisine, offering attendees a festive and educational experience. Local artists and vendors showcased their work, reflecting the diversity and vibrancy of Caribbean heritage.
Senator Persaud thanked all participants, community partners, and attendees for making the event a success. The celebration marked a highlight of Caribbean-American Heritage Month, which is observed nationally each June.
