Senator Steve Chan Honors NYPD Asian Jade Society on 45th Anniversary

Albany, NY — On Tuesday, June 10, 2025, the New York State Senate formally adopted Senate Resolution No. 1018, sponsored by Senator Chan, commemorating the 45th Anniversary of the NYPD Asian Jade Society and recognizing its exemplary service to the people of New York City and the State of New York.

Founded in 1980 by ten pioneering Asian American officers, the Asian Jade Society has grown into one of the most respected and active fraternal organizations within the NYPD. Over four and a half decades, it has advanced its mission of mentorship, cultural representation, and public service, while strengthening trust between law enforcement and New York’s Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities.

“The Asian Jade helped countless others throughout the years, whether they be a member needing help along the way, or a young child or a teen needing some guidance. In recent years, Detective WenJian Liu and his partner, Detective Rafael Ramos, were assassinated in the line of duty about 10 years ago. We all remember that in cold blood. It was the Jade that stood by those two families. It was the Jade that made sure that those two families were gonna be okay,”

      said Senator Chan during the resolution’s adoption. 

The Society has played a critical role in fostering cross-cultural understanding, promoting AAPI leadership in law enforcement, and honoring the legacy of members such as Detective Wenjian Liu, who gave his life in the line of duty, and Chief Thomas M. Chan, the NYPD’s first Asian American three-star chief.

In its 45th year, the Asian Jade Society continues its commitment to uplifting the next generation of AAPI officers, building community partnerships, and ensuring that the NYPD reflects the vibrant diversity of New York.
