State Senator Christopher J. Ryan (SD-50) today announced that Heid’s of Liverpool has been named to the Historic Business Preservation Registry (HBPR). Heid’s was nominated by Senator Ryan earlier this year and was accepted to the HBPR recently by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP).
“For more than a century, Heid's of Liverpool has been more than just a restaurant—it has been a Central New York tradition,” said Senator Ryan. “Heid’s has helped countless customers and families make memories and experience one of our region's most iconic destinations. Being named to the Historic Business Preservation Registry is a fitting recognition of a business that has served generations of Central New Yorkers with pride. I was honored to nominate Heid's, and I look forward to seeing this treasured institution continue serving our community for years to come.”
“For nearly 140 years, Heid's has had the privilege of serving generations of families. We've watched grandparents bring their grandchildren to experience the same hot dogs, coneys, and traditions they enjoyed as kids. To be recognized by New York State as a historic business is an honor and we're deeply grateful to our customers, employees, and the Liverpool community for making Heid's part of so many family traditions. This recognition celebrates the people who have supported us through the years just as much as it celebrates our history,” said both Heid’s Owner Randall Parker and General Manager Patrick Winslow.
The HBPR was established in 2020, and accepts businesses that have operated in the state for at least 50 years within the same municipality with no break in operations exceeding two years. The HBPR also requires inductees to demonstrate a contribution to the municipality’s history or identity and show a commitment to maintaining the physical features and traditions that define the business.
