“Today the Senate Democratic Majority put forward a budget that keeps our focus where it belongs—on lowering costs, protecting essential services, and investing in the communities that make New York strong.
At a time when Washington is threatening deep cuts to healthcare, education, and programs working families rely on, this proposal makes clear that New York will stand up for its people. Our one-house budget prioritizes affordability by expanding access to child care, lowering utility costs and strengthening energy affordability, investing in public schools and higher education, strengthening healthcare services, and supporting economic development and small businesses. It also makes critical investments in school aid, transportation infrastructure, and clean water funding—priorities that will strengthen our schools, improve roads and transit systems communities rely on every day, and protect the lakes, rivers, and drinking water that are so vital to Central New York and communities across the state. It also takes responsible steps to ensure the wealthiest individuals and corporations pay their fair share so we can continue delivering for working families across the state.
I’m especially pleased that two of my bills are included in this budget resolution:
I’m especially pleased that two of my bills are included in this budget resolution:
- S.6956B, increases the earning limitation for positions of public service from $35,000 to $50,000;
- S.7635, providing an optional 25-year retirement plan for state, county, and municipal 911 operations and dispatchers.
This is an important step in the budget process, and I look forward to working with my colleagues in the Senate, as well as our colleagues in the Assembly, and Governor Hochul to deliver a final budget that reflects the needs and priorities of communities across Central New York and the entire state.”
