State Senator Christopher J. Ryan on Governor Hochul’s 2026 State of the State Address
January 14, 2026
“Following Governor Hochul’s 2026 State of the State address, I appreciate the Governor’s emphasis on expanding nuclear energy and increasing New York’s energy output. It is essential that these proposals deliver real, lasting benefits to upstate communities. Nuclear energy is the best way to grow our clean energy economy, meet our climate goals, and keep costs low for families and businesses—if the State follows through with investments, workforce development, and project siting in the region's best equipped to support this work. As New York advances NextGen Nuclear New York, we must ensure New Yorkers are prepared to build, operate, and sustain this industry, and that upstate communities like Oswego County are central—not secondary—to these plans.
I am encouraged by the Governor’s continued focus on affordability, including Universal Pre-K and the expansion of the Child Tax Credit, but Central New York families are still struggling with rising utility, insurance, and healthcare costs, and they need relief that is meaningful and felt locally.
I also appreciate the Governor’s support for law enforcement and first responders, particularly investments in mental health resources and critical-incident support, which remain essential to keeping our communities safe.
As we begin the 2026 Legislative Session and budget process, I look forward to working with my colleagues and the Governor, while continuing to advocate for policies that ensure upstate New York receives its fair share of investment, jobs, and opportunity—and that her State of the State commitments turn into results for the people of Central New York.”
