January 6, 2026
(Patchogue, NY) – NY State Senator Dean Murray has announced that libraries and library systems in the 3rd Senate district have received over $600,000 in capital funding for much needed construction projects. This is part of the funding that was allocated in the FY 2024- 25 State Budget slated to pay for 212 construction projects for public libraries and public library systems throughout NY State that were recently approved by the State Education Department and New York State Library. This critical investment will support much-needed renovations, upgrades, and improvements to library facilities in legislative districts statewide.
As the Ranking Member of the NYS Senate Library Committee, Senator Murray says he's thrilled to support the funding of these much-needed projects and recognizes the vital role libraries play in our communities. In the 3rd Senate District, funding has been approved for projects benefiting the South Country Library, Middle Country Public Library, MasticMoriches-Shirley Public Library, and the Suffolk Cooperative Library System in Bellport.
Libraries across New York State are in urgent need of modernization. Many facilities are more than 100 years old and face challenges including outdated technology, insufficient space, lack of energy efficiency, and limited accessibility for individuals with disabilities. These capital investments will help ensure libraries can continue to meet the evolving needs of their communities.
“Libraries are more than "buildings with books", they provide access to knowledge, foster curiosity, host different clubs & organizations, offer programs for everyone and promote a lifelong culture of learning for residents of all ages. I am incredibly proud to see these funds reinvested locally to strengthen our libraries and improve the quality of life for families throughout the 3rd Senate District,” stated NYS Senator Dean Murray, 3rd Senate District.
This funding represents a meaningful step forward in preserving and enhancing these essential community resources, and Senator Murray remains committed to advocating for continued support for libraries across New York State.
