(Bronx, NY) — State Senator Gustavo Rivera received his annual flu vaccination at Union Community Health Center (UCHC) on Monday, October 26, underscoring the importance of vaccination in preventing influenza and protecting the health of individuals, families, and communities across New York City.
Dr. Douglas L. York, Ph.D, M.P.H., President and CEO of UCHC, joined Senator Rivera to receive his annual flu vaccination. Dr. York also emphasized the importance of getting an annual flu shot, particularly as influenza activity ramps up earlier than usual this year. He highlighted the role of vaccination in reducing the risk of illness and serious complications, while helping protect vulnerable members of the community.
“With flu activity increasing earlier than expected, getting vaccinated is an important step we can all take to protect ourselves and the people around us,” said State Senator Gustavo Rivera. “Annual flu shots help reduce the risk of serious illness and strengthen our collective efforts to keep our communities healthy. I encourage everyone to get vaccinated this flu season.”
“Community health centers play a critical role in ensuring that families have access to flu vaccination and trusted information to make informed decisions about their health,” said Douglas L. York, Ph.D, M.P.H., President and CEO of UCHC. “At Union Community Health Center, we see prevention as a shared responsibility—one that connects patients, providers, and community leaders. We join Senator Rivera in encouraging residents and our patients to prioritize their annual flu shot, especially to help protect older adults, young children, and neighbors with chronic health conditions.”
As flu season progresses, Senator Rivera and Dr. York urge New Yorkers to take proactive steps to protect themselves, their families, and their neighbors by staying informed about recommended vaccinations and consulting with their health care providers.
