Flushing, NY — State Senator John Liu today joined small businesses on Main Street, Flushing, to announce the creation of a new loading zone that will help businesses receive deliveries without being ticketed under the city’s automated bus lane enforcement program.

The businesses turned to Senator Liu’s office after experiencing difficulties taking deliveries around the Main Street bus lane, resulting in delivery delays, missed deliveries, and a loss of business on a busy stretch of Main Street just north of the Long Island Expressway. 

After working with the NYC Department of Transportation, Senator Liu’s office secured a commitment from the agency to establish a new 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. loading zone on the block in the coming months. The designated loading zone on Main Street between 59th Avenue and 60th Avenue will provide more than a dozen small businesses with a dedicated time and place for deliveries while keeping the bus lane clear during peak hours.  

State Senator John Liu stated, “This part of Flushing has long been an important business and consumer corridor, but these shops and restaurants have been hampered by the difficulty of receiving deliveries vital to their businesses. This new loading zone is the result of the business owners speaking up and the DOT responding appropriately. I am proud that we have found a balance between the needs of these small businesses and commuters who rely on the bus lane for safe and speedier transit. ”

Coordinating truck deliveries is never easy, and this new loading zone will make a huge difference for our businesses along Main Street. Designating a delivery time will help streamline business and help us continue contributing to the local economy.

The new loading zone is expected to be established in the coming months.

In attendance were representatives from Main Street Imperial Taiwanese Restaurant, Happy Garden Restaurant, AF Wine and Liquor, State Farm Amber Chou, Chakra Japanese Restaurant, Sour Little 7, Kanwah Restaurant, Tianxia Asian Chinese Restaurant, Dumpling Story, and Zaodian Jianmian Noodles.
