Bayside, NY - State Senator John Liu today concluded his 2026 Back to School Donation Drive by donating more than 400 new backpacks loaded with school supplies to local tenant and community organizations. The groups will now distribute the backpacks to children and families in their respective communities ahead of the new school year.

The donation drive was made possible through the generous support of community members, local organizations, businesses, and institutions that donated school supplies and backpacks to help ensure local students have everything they need to succeed as they head back to school. Over the last month, Senator Liu’s office received donations from the Korean American Family Service Center, Fidelis Care, Queens Public Library, Con Edison, Live On NY, MetroPlusHealth, Rendr, Affinity by Molina Healthcare, USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, and Chinese American IPA (CAIPA), along with donations from individuals throughout the community.

We want to make sure the cost of back-to-school shopping doesn’t take away from the excitement of a new school year.

State Senator John Liu stated, “Every new school year is an exciting opportunity for a fresh start, and we want to make sure the cost of back-to-school shopping doesn’t take away from the excitement of a new school year. Many thanks to everyone who contributed to our school supply donation drive to make sure hundreds of students in our community are able to kick off the new school year with a new backpack, school supplies, and the confidence they need to succeed.”

The backpacks and school supplies will be distributed to students and families through community organizations and institutions, including Ebenezer Baptist Church, Macedonia AME Church, Bland House Tenants Association, Latimer Gardens, and Pomonok Residents Association.
