Senator Kristen Gonzalez, Chair of the NYS Senate Elections Committee, Statement on the Trump Executive Order for mail-in voting
April 1, 2026
“The latest executive order from the Trump Administration is another attack on our fundamental right to vote. The 2026 midterms are pivotal for protecting the integrity of our democracy. This EO looks to disenfranchise voters by hindering access to mail-in voting.
The Constitution is clear, States are responsible for presiding over “the times, places, and manner of holding elections” (Article 1, Section 4). Trump’s executive order to create “state citizenship lists” for mail-in voter verification is deeply alarming and should be blocked.”
