“I am extremely disappointed in NYU Langone’s decision to settle with the Department of Justice and their agreement to end gender-affirming care for young people.This settlement is a continuation of the hospital system’s submission to a fascist administration that threatens our most vulnerable communities and attacks access to healthcare. 

When NYU Langone first announced they would stop providing gender-affirming care in early 2025, I delivered over 50,000 letters directly to their door from outraged New Yorkers demanding they continue providing this essential healthcare. When NYU announced the discontinuation of their Transgender Youth Health Program in February, I sent a letter with 73 of my colleagues in the State Legislature and the New York City Council to demand they reinstate this program and continue providing gender-affirming care for young people.  

Now that NYU Langone has once again capitulated to the Trump administration’s threats, we will not stop fighting to protect trans and gender-expansive young people. Gender-affirming care is life-saving care and has proven to reduce rates of depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation among trans youth. The decision to settle with DOJ encourages more threats of political retribution and perpetuates a state of negligence for trans and gender-expansive youth. NYU Langone’s patients deserve better from their healthcare provider. 

I stand with New Yorkers in demanding equal access to healthcare and calling on our healthcare providers to treat all of their patients with dignity and respect.”
