(Ithaca, NY)- Today, Senator Lea Webb (SD52) announced that Tompkins County will receive over $47 million in funding from the State's Regional Economic Development Council (REDC). Funding through these various state agency programs is designed to help boost economic growth, including $100 million in Pro-Housing Supply Fund awards to jump-start housing growth, and over $60 million in Regional Council Capital Fund awards to implement each region’s strategic plan.
“I’m proud to support investments that align with the needs and priorities of our Southern Tier communities,” said Senator Webb. “This funding represents a meaningful commitment to the future of Tompkins County by expanding housing opportunities, strengthening infrastructure, supporting local businesses, and promoting sustainable growth. These REDC investments will revitalize neighborhoods and ensure our region remains a place where families can succeed for generations to come.”
Tompkins County received the following funding through the State's Regional Economic Development Council (REDC):
- $5,000,000 for the Town of Ithaca to complete an infrastructure project to support significant housing development on 5.25 acres within SouthWorks, the redevelopment of the 95-acre Morse Chain/Emerson Transmission Plant site. This funding is through the Pro Housing Supply Funds Program (ESD PHSF).
- $2,000,000 for Tompkins County to construct the new Tompkins County Center of Government (CoG) building at the corner of North Tioga and East Buffalo Streets within the DeWitt Park Historic District in downtown Ithaca. This funding is through NYSERDA’s Building Cleaner Communities Competition, formerly known as the Carbon Neutral Community Economic Development program.
- $1,076,000 for DMK Endeavors, Inc. to undertake the buildout of the SouthWorks adaptive reuse development in the City of Ithaca and open a First Learning childcare center. This funding is through the Regional Council Capital Funds Program.
- $382,648 for Ithaca Neighborhood Housing Services, Inc. to redevelop a vacant medical office and city-owned parking lot in downtown Ithaca as mixed-income, senior housing with a childcare center. This funding is through the Regional Council Capital Funds Program.
- $572,139 for the Village of Lansing to construct approximately 3,335 linear feet of sidewalk along Uptown and Craft Roads. This funding is through the Climate Smart Communities Program (DEC CSC).
- $38 Million for the Southern Tier to support the development of SouthWorks, a mixed-use, adaptive reuse project in Ithaca that repurposes the blighted former Morse Chain Factory site. This funding is through the Advancing Collaboration for High-impact Initiatives for Economic Visions & Expansion competition, or ACHIEVE Competition, which empowered the REDCs to advance catalytic economic development projects backed by enhanced implementation funding to jump-start regional growth.
