SOUTHERN TIER, NY– Today, Senator Lea Webb announced over $200,000 in funding for Senate District 52 through the Strengthening Essential Cybersecurity for Utilities and Resiliency Enhancements (SECURE) grant program.

Said Senator Lea Webb, “Our wastewater and drinking water systems are cornerstones of public health, and it is absolutely critical that we continue to provide localities with funding to help them make improvements. This funding will help municipalities strengthen their cybersecurity posture against dangerous cyber threats. Clean water is essential to public health, and as infrastructure systems increasingly rely on digital and internet-connected technologies, we must continue to invest in safeguards against cyberattacks.” 

These SECURE grants and free technical assistance from the Environmental Facilities Corporation will help local governments implement the State’s new minimum cybersecurity standards for drinking water and sewer systems, which were announced in March of 2026. The grants will fund local cybersecurity assessments and implementation, helping water systems build stronger, more secure operations.

The following awards were made throughout Senate District 52: 

• The City of Cortland was awarded $25,000 for Cortland WWTP Cybersecurity Assessment
• The City of Cortland was also awarded $25,00 for Cortland WTP Cybersecurity Assessment
• The Town of Virgil was awarded $10,000 for Virgil Water SECURE Grant Assessment
• The Town of Virgil was also awarded $10,000 for Virgil Wastewater SECURE Grant Assessment
• The Village of Dryden was awarded $25,000 for Dryden SECURE Grant
• The Village of Freeville was awarded $10,000 for Freeville SECURE Grant Application
• The City of Ithaca was awarded $25,000 for Drinking Water System Cybersecurity Assessment (SECURE Grant)
• The City of Ithaca was also awarded $50,000 for SECURE Grant
• The Village of Trumansburg was awarded $25,000 for Trumansburg Wastewater SECURE Grant Assessment
