Yesterday, Senator Webb announced $500,000 in funding through the FY27 New York State Budget for the Broome County Community Charities, Inc. in support of the Broome County Professional Golf Tournament known as the DICK’S Open. This investment will support economic development, tourism, and community impact for the Southern Tier.
The DICK’S Open is operated by Broome County Community Charities, Inc. (BCCC) and has donated over $21.9 million to local charities. Each year, the event attracts more than 75,000 attendees from across the country and generates over $18 million in economic impact for the region. Securing this $500,000 investment in the FY27 State Budget is a win for Broome County, for our charities, and for the thousands of families and small businesses who benefit from this incredible event.
“This tournament is a huge source of pride for our community. To have a professional golf tournament of this size right here in the Southern Tier is an honor, and I am proud to have secured $500,000 in state funding for Broome County Community Charities Inc. in support of the DICK’S Open,” said Senator Lea Webb. “This funding is about investing in what makes Broome County strong. The DICK’S Open supports our youth programs, community health, economic development, and nonprofit support. I am so excited to once again play a pivotal role in this golf tournament and am committed to making sure our region has the resources to grow and thrive.”
Said John Karedes, Executive Director of the DICK’S Open, “We are so thankful to Senator Webb and the $500,000 of funding that she successfully fought for in the New York State budget. Her coordination and support is crucial for this tournament, which boosts economic development and helps raise money for local organizations. This investment helps enhance the experience for visitors around the country and deepens our impact on the community.”
“The DICK’S Open is the highlight of our summer here in Broome County,” said Albert Nocciolino, President of Broome County Community Charities. “I want to share my appreciation for DICK’S Sporting Goods for continuing to be the title sponsor of our annual golf tournament, and to Senator Webb for securing $500,000 for us through the state budget. This event is absolutely crucial to the work we do throughout the rest of the year, supporting local organizations and giving back to our community. I’m looking forward to another year of incredible sportsmanship.”
