On Tuesday, May 26, 2026, State Senator Lea Webb proudly inducted Dr. Susan Herson, U.S. Navy, U.S. Marines (Retired), into the New York State Senate’s Veterans Hall of Fame during a ceremony held at the State Capitol in Albany. The event, which took place following Memorial Day, honored Dr. Susan Herson alongside other distinguished veterans from across the state.
Susan Herson, MD, a resident of Ithaca, NY, is a U.S. Navy veteran, physician, and health‑care leader whose career has been defined by service to those who serve. She began her medical career as a General Medical Officer with the 2nd Force Service Support Group at Camp Lejeune, providing frontline care for more than 8,000 Marines and Sailors, overseeing immunization programs across multiple bases, and leading performance‑improvement efforts in demanding operational environments.
The New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame recognizes veterans who have not only served with distinction in the military but who have continued to give back through civic, charitable, and community leadership. This year’s inductees represent a diverse array of backgrounds and contributions, reflecting the rich tapestry of service and dedication across New York State.
“Dr. Susan Herson exemplifies a lifetime of service through her distinguished military career, her leadership within the VA health care system, and her ongoing commitment to improving care for veterans and older adults,” said Senator Lea Webb. “Her work has advanced safety and independence for patients and made a lasting impact on communities across New York State.”
"I first met Senator Lea Webb’s team through their dedicated outreach to veterans, from a pop-up event at Triphammer Mall to a Valentine’s Day celebration at Elizabeth Brewster House, and support for our Women Veterans Ithaca Chapter,” said Dr. Susan Herson. “Being inducted into the Veterans Hall of Fame not only honors my own service, but also my father’s, and shines a light on disabled veterans in our communities.”
After active duty, Dr. Herson continued to serve veterans as Chief of Staff and Deputy Chief of Staff at the Bath and Finger Lakes VA, where she led more than 75 providers across primary care, geriatrics, and urgent care, chaired peer‑review and credentialing committees, and deployed multiple times for disaster‑relief missions, including the COVID‑19 response. She later provided direct care as a PACT primary‑care provider at the Fort Wayne VA, expanding access through telehealth and covering colleagues during reserve deployments and family leave. Her work with older veterans and her own parents’ aging journeys drew her into fall prevention and mobility safety.
As founder of remMD, she has applied the same clinical rigor and mission focus that guided her Navy and VA service to developing practical tools that help older adults remain safer and more independent at home and in care facilities. Whether treating Marines in the field, leading teams at the VA, volunteering in global health settings, or building community through senior fitness classes, Dr. Herson’s commitment is the same: to honor her fellow veterans and elders with care, dignity, and concrete solutions that reduce preventable harm
Senator Webb’s selection of Dr. Susan Herson for this year’s Veterans Hall of Fame recognizes not only her military career but also her continued contributions as an entrepreneur, medical provider, and community leader in the Southern Tier and beyond.
