(ITHACA, NY) - NYS Senator Lea Webb presented Protagonist Books & Coffee with a NYS Empire Award. The NYS Empire Award is the highest award a NYS Senator can bestow upon businesses and organizations in their district. 

Founded by Sam and Amber Gellar-Smith, both accomplished authors, the business reflects a passion for storytelling and a shared vision of creating a space where everyone can feel seen and valued. After relocating to Dryden in search of a more inclusive and supportive environment, the couple brought that vision to life by establishing a bookstore that prioritizes diverse voices and community engagement.

Protagonist Books & Coffee is a welcoming space where individuals can gather and build relationships outside of home and work. With its thoughtfully curated selection of books, particularly in fiction and memoir, the store highlights a wide range of perspectives and experiences, ensuring that all members of the community can “find their story” reflected on its shelves. In addition to its literary offerings, the business provides a full coffee service featuring locally sourced products.
