Wayne County Community Schools Program initiative supports early childhood learning

Senator Pam Helming joined local families for the inaugural Play and Grow event hosted by the Wayne County Community Schools Program, a family-centered initiative designed to support young children’s learning and development through play, connection, and early literacy.

Held at Lollypops & Polkadots in Marion and hosted by local business owner Chrissy Nelson, the event featured a Toddler Book Club, interactive activities, and hands-on learning opportunities. Senator Helming read a winter-themed children’s story to participating toddlers and assisted with a creative snack activity.

Play and Grow encourages early childhood development through engaging, play-based experiences in a relaxed and supportive environment for families with young children.

“Introducing children to books and learning at an early age helps build the foundation for lifelong curiosity, confidence, and success,” said Senator Helming. “Opportunities like this not only encourage a love of reading from the very beginning, but also bring families together and strengthen the sense of connection that helps our communities and young learners thrive.”
