Yorktown Heights, NY – New York State Senator Pete Harckham visited the offices of Support Connection, Inc. to announce $50,000 in state funding he secured for the non-profit organization to support its vital work providing free and confidential services to people impacted by breast, ovarian, and gynecological cancers.

Support Connection provides emotional, social, and educational support to women, their families, and friends affected by cancer. The organization’s Peer Counseling Program serves approximately 500 people each year through one-on-one peer counseling, support groups, wellness programs, and educational services led by professional counselors who are cancer survivors themselves.

“Over the past 30 years, Support Connection has provided hope and support to countless people during incredibly difficult times in their lives, helping them to navigate their cancer journeys,” said Harckham. “This funding will help ensure Support Connection can continue providing the vital services that so many people and families rely on.”

The funding will assist Support Connection’s Peer Counseling Program, which provides all services free of charge and in a confidential setting. Support Connection is the only organization in the Hudson Valley offering this unique model of peer-based cancer support.

“Over the years, Senator Harckham has been a tireless advocate for our work to offer support and give hope to people impacted by breast, ovarian and other gynecological cancers,” said Founder and Executive Director Katherine Quinn. “Obtaining this grant gives us a necessary boost to ensure that we are there for every person who needs us.” 

During his visit, Harckham also presented Support Connection with a New York State Empire Award in recognition of its 30 years of service to the community. He also presented Quinn with a New York State Commendation Award honoring her leadership and longstanding commitment to helping others. The Empire Award recognizes businesses and institutions that have made significant contributions to their local communities, while the Commendation Award honors constituents who exemplify community service, philanthropy, and leadership.
