Senator Chan Honors and Recognizes Taiwanese Heritage Day
New York State Senate Commemorates Taiwan Heritage Day Senate Passes Resolution J823 to Honor Taiwanese-American Contributions

Albany, NY— On Wednesday, May 28th, the New York State Senate proudly adopted Resolution J823, memorializing Governor Kathy Hochul to proclaim May 28, 2025, as Taiwan Heritage Day in the State of New York. The resolution, which is strongly supported by several members of the Senate, acknowledges the enduring contributions of Taiwanese Americans to New York and the United States.
 

During a heartfelt floor speech, one senator welcomed Ambassador James Lee, Mr. Tony Choi of the Chinese Businessmen’s Cultural Association (CBCA), and Mr. Tom Su to the State Capitol in Albany, recognizing their leadership and representation of the Taiwanese-American community.

 

Taiwan is home to the world’s largest semiconductor foundry, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC). It's innovation powers our phones, cars, and global economy,” Senator Chan noted. “But beyond technology, Taiwan’s contributions to New York are visible and tangible — from commerce to culture, especially in vibrant communities like Flushing, Queens.

 

The Senate lauded Taiwan’s democratic resilience, entrepreneurial spirit, and the thriving cultural presence of Taiwanese Americans throughout the state; Senator Chan voted Aye. By designating May 28th as Taiwan Heritage Day, New York celebrates a shared commitment to democracy, innovation, and community enrichment.

Resolution J823 reflects a growing recognition of Taiwan’s significance as both an international partner and a source of cultural pride within New York’s diverse immigrant fabric.

The State Senate extends its gratitude to all Taiwanese Americans and leaders who continue to uplift New York with their legacy, hard work, and heritage.
